Queens Awards
NABGC MEMBERS ACKNOWLEDGED IN QUEENS AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENTS
The tireless commitment to young people of at least two members of the NABGC network have been acknowledged in the Queens Awards announced recently.
NABGC full-members, Durham Association of Boys & Girls Clubs and Greater Manchester based Oldham Boxing & Personal Development were notified of their Queens Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) in June.
The QAVS acknowledges the contribution of the voluntary sector to society and is open to all voluntary organisations to apply.
Durham Association of Boys & Girls Clubs (DABGC) were formed in 1933 and now undertake an amazing programme that reaches more than 5,000 young people in 75 local youth clubs and organisations. Although they have only three part-time staff, they are supported by an army of 600 volunteers who help to deliver their programme of activities.
DABGC Chairman, David Orford said, “This award is a great honour for the association and reflects the hard work and dedication over many years from staff and volunteers. The sports and activities they have provided for young people have produced world class athletes and champions. They are our future, and this award is for them.”
Oldham Boxing & Personal Development Centre in Greater Manchester have also been awarded the QAVS. Members of 360 Youth, the club has been in existence for almost 15 years serving the community not just as a Boxing Club, but also a place where young people can go and develop personally as well as in the boxing ring. It was formed out of a partnership between Youth Justice Manager Eric Noi, and Oldham Rugby League Director Sean Whitehead.
The QAVS tops off a year that has seen the club also receive an award for their work supporting young people through COVID.
Eric Noi, founder and Director of the club said, “This award recognises everything that is good about Oldham and shows what can be achieved when residents, businesses and organisations come together.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers – who during the pandemic have potentially put their lives on the line to help others.
“Our club is open to everyone and we’d urge you to come along and see what we can do for you.
‘But our club is nothing without the people, so this award is for them and recognises them as they are real heroes and deserve recognition.”
