NABGC AWARDED KICKSTART SCHEME

The National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs (NABGC) have been awarded a grant to deliver the governments recently launched Kickstart scheme which aims to provide young people with a 6-month work placement and develop their skills and experience to help them get permanent employment.

At the start of this year NABGC were informed by the DWP that their application to the scheme had been successful.

The scheme will initially deliver 115 placements for young people aged 16 to 24 years of age and is focussed on helping to support the great work that many of our members already do with young people across the country.

Placements will range from administration, fundraising and social media support to sports coaching, arts activity support and youth work assistance.

Andy Hamill, National Director of NABGC said, “This is a great opportunity for NABGC and it is a programme that fits with our aim of helping young people to thrive. Being more employable is a key part of helping young people to thrive, fulfil their potential and make a positive contribution to the world around them.”

He continued, “Our scheme is not just about providing work placements for young people but also about bringing our youth work experience to the fore and helping each participant to grow and develop personally.”

Minister for Employment Mims Davies MP said:

“It’s great to see the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs become a Kickstart employer, nurturing and supporting 115 of our next generation of workers in roles ranging from working in social media and fundraising to becoming a sports coach or youth work assistant.

“They themselves play a vital role in helping young people reach their potential which is why they’re a great fit. Our Kickstart Scheme will give young jobseekers across the country vital skills and work experience so they can thrive in employment as our Plan for Jobs levels up opportunity.”

National Association are the youth club charity in the UK. We help young people to thrive through the provision of programmes of positive activities that young people can participate in, along with training, support and advice for staff and volunteers in local, grass-roots youth clubs and projects.

Through our network of 23 member organisations we reach around 300,000 young people and 15,000 volunteers in 3,000 youth clubs and projects, predominantly in the most deprived communities of the UK.
